The Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU) is a modern, university-level art school.
It offers artistic personalities who have a broad cultural perspective and intense desire for profound learning the opportunity to integrate theatrical knowledge and skill with artistic experimentation. DAMU is a highly selective school, providing professional education in all the branches of theatre creation: acting, directing, dramaturgy, scenography, theory and criticism, theatre management, authorial creation, and drama in education in the fields of regular and alternative theatre, performance studies and puppetry. The most important personalities of Czech theatrical life teach here and a number of important foreign experts work as guest professors (including Charles Marowicz, Oleg Tabakov and others). The course of study includes bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level studies. The school has a significant number of international contacts and actively encourages residencies at various European schools. Studying at DAMU is a challenge for intrepid, talented and creative individuals. Graduates of DAMU find prestigious employment in the foremost theatres in the Czech Republic. They also act in, and found, independent companies, work as free-lance theatre artists, theatre reviewer, producers, teachers and/or authors in the broadest sense.
